'Janet Price... makes a completely persuasive Bianca singing expressively and with panache. As the more sympathetic sister Yvonne Kenny combines poise with warmth, and Della Jones, in the travesti role of Luigi, gives an authoritative portrayal distinguished by her relishing of words as well as music.

Maurice Arthur sings with admirable polish and agility, also rising excitingly to the tenor heroics of Ugo.

It is one of the strengths of this whole performance that the two relatively minor roles are sung by the equally accomplished Christian du Plessis (Folco) and Eiddwen Harrhy {Emma)... an irresistible addition to your Donizetti collection.'

'The work itself is so fascinating that one wonders why it was a failure in March 1832, and I can only describe the performance in words taken from L'elisir d'amore: "di rara qualità.'
