Gramophone
'The distinction of the score itself lies very largely in the beauty of its orchestration. Everything is cared for, the interrelationship of voice and instruments being one of the happiest features.'

Opera
'Jane Eaglen milks the name-part for all that it's worth, floating the voice in moments of tenderness, hard-hitting and incisive when consumed by vengeful fury. As her rival, Yvonne Kenny offers a near perfect contrast... Bruce Ford brings a suitably heroic ring... and his sense of style extends to some tasteful decoration of repeats. Raúl Giménez as his rival does all that can be done for a part that has no business to be there at all... two tenors so distinctive in timbre yet both equipped with the requisite technique. Alastair Miles is an admirable Creonte...'
