'L'assedio…proves to be no run-of-the-mill opera but a moving, imaginative composition, finely constructed dramatically, and musically a thorough piece of work with interest in the orchestral score as well as the vocal parts.
The performance does the work full justice. Christian du Plessis and Della Jones head a cast of predominantly British singers who meet the technical demands with plenty of spirit and without fuss. Nuccia Focile makes a promising debut on record. And David Parry conducts with care for detail as well as a sure feeling for idiom....' |
