La Bohème
CHAN 3008
Classic CD
'Musically this is a fine Bohème. It says a lot for Chandos and the Peter Moores Foundation, their sponsor, that they have acquired such a first-class cast, and just as much for international singers like Haymon, McLaughlin, O'Neill and Opie that they were prepared to relearn their roles. This line up could stand comparison with most current stagings, and develops that vital feeling of ensemble which so many modern recordings lack.'

The Sunday Telegraph
'Cynthia Haymon is a delightful Mimi while Marie McLaughlin is a classy and vivacious Musetta. Alan Opie's Marcello is first-rate, with Alastair Miles and William Dazeley equally convincing as Colline and Schaunard....The outstanding feature is the wonderful playing of the Philharmonia and the way the opera is conducted by David Parry. Tempi are just right and he gives scrupulous attention to all kinds of orchestral detail. We rarely hear such a superb Puccini interpretation these days at The Royal Opera and the ENO. The recorded balance between singers and orchestra is superlative. A very recommendable issue.'
